My journey to becoming a doula.

I have always been a nurturer. A soul bound to the earth and love. Even as a reader and a writer, I was drawn to stories with doulas and midwives, but it wasn't until years later that I met a beautiful woman named Stephanie Sinclair that my fate changed. She is a Birth Doula and cares for women as they bring babies into this world. I realized that I could be too. That all the things I was, that made me who I am, I could share with other women to help them through their births with support and comfort.

I had an extremely difficult birth with my son. There were a lot of moments through my birth that having a doula with me would have helped me immensely to cope with the difficulties. After experiencing that I know I can make a difference for other women in how they experience and remember their birth stories...and so I have become a trained Doula.

"The word doula comes from the ancient Greek meaning a woman who serves and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.” — DONA INTERNATIONAL

Birth doulas provide emotional support for the birthing woman and her partner prenatally, during birth, and postpartum. That includes, physical support during birth including: laboring positions, comfort measures, massage, relaxation techniques, etc. A birth doula can also provide assistance with communication between the birthing family and the care provider or other staff, providing education.

Women who have support from a birth doula have:
25% shorter labor duration,
60% reduction in epidural requests,
50% reduction in cesarean rate,
40% reduction in synthetic oxytocin (Pitocin) use,
and are 34% less likely to rate their childbirth experience negatively.
