Science Lava Volcano

SHARE

Science is awesome for boys and girls and moms and dad. Everyone can get into this mess and like it! Take your standard Lava Volcano you remember then add in the dough to make it even cooler! This is a fun activity for when mom has a bit more energy or a helper, because it gets pretty messy! Let the kids measure the ingredients and mix the dough by hand. It is a sensory exploring project too!

Special thanks to my friend Melissa for letting us come play!

WHAT YOU NEED:

6 Cups Flour

2 Cups Salt

3 Tablespoons Cooking Oil

2 Cups Warm Water (approximately)

1 Empty Water Bottle

1 Cake Pan

More Warm Water

Red Food Coloring

6 Drops Dish Soap

2 Tablespoons Baking Soda

Vinegar

Optional: Dinosaurs or any other small plastic toys.

DIRECTIONS

1 Start by making the dough. In a large bowl mix together Flour, Salt, Cooking Oil, and 2 Cups of Warm Water. Let the kids use their hands to knead the dough.

2 Fill the water bottle about 2/3 of the way up with warm water, add 6-12 drops of red food coloring and set it in the middle of your cake pan.

3 Form the dough around the bottle creating your volcano. Place a few plastic creatures in the dough.

4 Put 2 Tablespoons of Baking Soda into the bottle.

5 Slowly start adding the Vinegar and watch your volcano ooze. Continue adding Vinegar until you have a good and proper mess.
